Biggest Mobs Yummy: Karma Cafe
I have a theory that if you do something REALLY well, the name and/or location doesn’t matter.
The ‘Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ and ‘Bass In The Grass’ prove my pointless point.
So does Karma Cafe.
Location wise, Karma Cafe is across from Le Crèche at the back of The Avenue in Parap. It’s a funny spot.
Name-wise .. Karma Cafe hurts my brain .. and not just because it’s crying out for a ‘K’ in ‘cafe’.
I’d never heard much about this place and, put simply, it was waaaay better than I expected. I really liked it.
In fact, like Collingwood’s forward line this year, it’s ‘surprisingly good’.
When Her Territory (HT) and I were there recently, we ‘literally’ (shout out to MAFS) were excited while eating our meals. That’s a good sign.
It’s also pet friendly. And if HT hadn’t already off-loaded her sausage dog to her ex-husband - as it was too much work - we definitely would have taken it.
Funnily enough, we only went because former Chief Minister turned short-term food-blogger while between jobs, Michael Gunner, posted about it on Facebook (and we couldn’t get a carpark at Roma Bar) but I am stoked we did.

Her Territory (HT): Warm Sweet Potato & Haloumi Salad
Me: Vegan Green Hash & Mushy (no typo, that’s its name)
The honey mustard vinaigrette on HT’s salad was how I like to see myself .. sweet, but not too sweet. And also biggest mobs yummy. The grilled haloumi and avo was good, and the sweet potato very moist (great word) and perfectly cooked. The pumpkin seeds are a nice crunchy touch. Plate lickingly yum.
But, unlike Glenn Medeiros, this place is NOT a one-hit wonder .. and he had 2 hits anyway.
Yes, HT’s choice was better - I ALWAYS have food envy - but mine was also great. Well-poached eggs, grilled haloumi, two green hash (hashes?), wilted spinach and mushrooms. It had chilli mayo and slivers of chilli that even I could handle (heat wise), to give it a small punch.
Remember when all those jockey’s got into massive post-Darwin cup brawl at the casino years ago? Well, the chilli was like that.
Our juices looked super cool in wooden cups/mugs and tasted good too. The cups/mugs made me feel like I was on holidays. Maybe Tahiti?
Coffee was nice and the table numbers were Uno cards.
Our mate Nuge (who we bumped into) had the scrambled eggs, mushroom, spinach and tomato sauce which he said was ‘f-cken great’. Solid review
There is a $10 daily special that looks a bargain (I haven’t tried it, but $10 bucks is nuts cheap for a good cafe).

We had the Açai bowls and they were yummy as.
Karma Cafe is great and is more under-rated than popping bubble-wrap. Tasty, healthy, interesting, good value and comfy.
Thumbs up rating: 4/5
