Biggest Mobs Yummy: Darwin Bagel Co

I never thought Darwin would have a bagel cafe.

But I never thought Fantales would be scrapped or Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones would work out so life sure throws up surprises.

A new and excellent entry in our cafe scene is Darwin Bagel Co. at Aquascene (Doctor’s Gully) in Larrakeyah.

Like Barbie and Ken, this pairing goes well together .. physically, it’s a great location for a cafe. Lots of splashing milkfish and water views while you enjoy your tasty bagel.

When I went to America with my fake ID (I was 20 years old) the locals at every town said ‘we have the best bagels’. Now we can be equally as painful and say WE have the best bagels. Yay.

Boiled and then baked, the bagels here come in 4 types (plain, everything, rye and blueberry). And you can can order a ‘schmear’ bagel (a Yiddish word for a spread on a bagel) or a ‘loaded’ bagel (a possibly British word for laden but used in this context for stuffing stuff into a bagel 😊)

I had the ‘everything ‘ bagel (the name is false advertising) with the house schmear (which was a fancy pants - and yum - cream cheese topping).

It was sooo good.

Slightly crunchy on the outside and chewy inside. Exactly how google told me a bagel should be. Yummo.

Unhelpfully, Her Territory ordered exactly the same thing and totally farked my food blog up FFS!!!

Anyhoo ..

Rather than review 2 exactly the same bagels, I spied on everyone else’s table and the Ruben with pickles (I love pickles) and the smoked salmon looked awesome. The blueberry bagel with house schmear looked gross but some guy was woofing it down like there was no tomorrow and seemed happy.

They have sweets (that looked to have a touch of class) and coffee so you are sorted there.

This place is a great - and different - addition to our food scene so make sure you give it a try (and a few times). I am going back asap.
