Was Barbie really snubbed? Stop the fake outrage

The release of Oscar  nominations earlier this week triggered a wave of ‘outrage’ from the feminist brigade.

While sexism must be called out, this cohort of feminati sometimes tries to make their case even when it isn’t really there.

On this occasion the outrage stemmed from a male cast member - Ryan Gosling -receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, while his female co-star Margot Robbie and female director Greta Gerwig, missed out.

There is a simple reason this happened.

Gosling’s performance was excellent and better than theirs.

He was nominated in the men’s ‘best supporting actor’ category. He wasn’t nominated INSTEAD of them.

The Academy picked him because he was a standout for that category.

Robbie wasn’t nominated  .. but guess who WAS - America Ferrrari … a female actor from Barbie.

This point seems to be overlooked in making the argument the academy had been sexist.

As for the director, yes, it was a well made, fun and pretty film .. but I felt the message was convoluted and confused, and the way men were represented was unfair and cheap.

I know that not loving this film is an unpopular opinion.

Women are supposed to be inspired and lifted by it.

But I wasn’t.

While I didn’t like the film, it clearly was not snubbed at the Oscars because it still got 8 nominations.

Let’s save the sexism outrage for when it actually matters. And when it actually occurs.
