Thankyou Kate Middleton

Today I am thinking of anyone who has been affected by cancer.

By revealing her diagnosis to the world, albeit under a cloud of intense public pressure, the Princess of Wales has handed a gift to those battling their own health issues.

She has told the millions who woke to her news today .. that they are ‘not alone’.

And this cannot be lost.

Anyone who has gone through serious health issues will tell you that the feeling of isolation is usually as debilitating as the condition itself.

Sharing our life’s highlights is a nice way to stay connected with people  … but these moments  have nothing on the impact that sharing our vulnerabilities does.

It’s our battles that make us human.

And it’s this raw honesty that brings a level of authenticity to friendships, work relationships and community.

By sharing the stories that cause us pain - those moments outside of our highlight reels - we are giving connection and comfort to others in a dark hour when they need it.

We are saying ‘I’ve been there too .. I hear you … support you …  & I will do this with you”.

And for that we should all be thanking Kate Middleton today.
